Are you considering your vocation? Do you know you want to live a faith-filled life and be connected to the Catholic church but not sure what that means for you?

High school-age Catholic Scouts can embark on a life-changing journey to help answer these questions and more. The next St. George Trek takes place July 3-18, 2024.

The St. George Trek brings Catholic high schoolers from around the country together for a 16-day adventure, including 11 days of backpacking in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico.

The Trek is led by the teen Trek participants and accompanied by priests, seminarians, and religious sisters and brothers.

You have the opportunity to experience the sacraments and the Church’s life of prayer as you explore the majesty of God’s creation – and your vocation.

Have we caught your attention? Then you’ll want to apply if you meet these eligibility requirements:

  • Be an active member of a Scouts BSA Troop, a BSA Venturing Crew, or a BSA Sea Scout Ship
  • Be actively engaged in your faith and your parish
  • Be at least 15 years old and no older than 18 years old by July 1 of the year of the Trek
  • Have the physical health and stamina to backpack on the mountain trails of Philmont
  • Have the emotional and spiritual maturity to spend 11 days in the wilderness with fellow teens discerning their vocation
  • Commit to becoming engaged in the work of your Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committee on Scouting when you return home.

Do you meet eligibility requirements listed above? Are you excited about an opportunity to explore your vocation on a high adventure journey? Then take the next step and apply today.

After you apply, your application is reviewed by your local Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committee. The Committee makes final decisions based on demonstrated maturity, physical ability, leadership potential, an interest in the life of the Church and an openness to the discernment of vocation to the priesthood or religious life.

If you are selected, your Diocesan/Eparchial Catholic Committee on Scouting may provide financial support for you to participate in the Trek. You may need to pay your own way to Albuquerque and back.

Both female and male Scouts are welcome to apply. Trek crews are male or female, not co-ed.

The Trek is organized by the National Catholic Committee on Scouting (NCCS), which is an official organization of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) and serves as an advisory committee to the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).
